About Little Bardfield Village Cricket Club

Established in 1919 and still based in the small, picturesque Essex village, Little Bardfield Village Cricket Club (LBVCC) is a small club with a huge heart. The 1st XI play in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Cricket League competing across Essex and Suffolk. The club is proud to offer cricket opportunities to people of all ages and abilities through our Sunday friendlies and junior cricket.

The Oxslip

Our club emblem is the 'Bardfield Oxslip' - one of very few plants to carry the name of an English village.

The oxslip is closely woven into the fabric of Bardfield's village life, ever since 1942 when botanist Henry Doubleday concluded that the oxslip was not simply a hybrid between cowslips and primroses - a conclusion drawn from analysing material collected from Bardfield and subsequently confirmed by Charles Darwin. Local residents of both Little and Great Bardfield are very proud of the oxslip, and LBVCC are equally proud to have it as the club emblem.

Club History

Despite being founded in 1919, local records show that cricket has been played in Little Bardfield since the mid 1800's. Whilst we are working on digitalising more of the historic images of the club and its players, we would love to hear from you if you have any LBVCC stories we could put into the archives. Contact us through contact@lbvcc.co.uk

If you have more images or stories of LBVCC history please sent them to contact@lbvcc.co.uk so that we can include them here!

2019 - Our Centenary Year

In 2019 LBVCC celebrated the club's centenary year; celebrating 100 years of cricket at Little Bardfield Village Cricket Club since it was founded in 2019.

The flagship celebration was to hold the club's first ever Cricket Week which took place from Sunday 28th July to Saturday 3rd of August 2019. The celebrations included numerous fixtures and event across the week, culminating in a celebration dinner where multiple generations of LBVCC players came together to acknowledge the occasion (after facing each other in battle on the hallowed Bardfield turf (see images below).
