Little Bardfield Village CC vs. Bury St Edmunds CC 2nd XI
Date: 22nd July 2023
Venue: The Fortress, Little Bardfield
The Fortress witnessed an energetic yet rain-affected clash as the mighty Oxslips took on the travelling Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club 2nd XI. With the weather forecast looking bleak, both teams agreed to play a shortened Twenty20 game in the hope of completing the match.
Toss:
LBVCC Skipper Rich Linney won the toss and elected to send Bury out to bat first.
Bury St Edmunds Innings:
Under overcast skies and with a light drizzle beginning to fall, Little Bardfield's Matt Graham opened the bowling. He took to the damp conditions like Michael Schumacher in his prime, ending the day with an impressive 4-23 from his 6 overs.
Not to be outdone by the opening Graham, Rory Hitchock (despite carrying a small injury) delivered returns of 2-35 to keep the fight for the seasons top wicket taker alive and kicking. The batsmen of Bury struggled to deal with the bowling attack aswell as the impressive and the enthusiastic peformance of the Oxslip fielders who battled against a slippery deck to limit the runs.
Tom Graham continued his return to action with 1-26 as the conditions continued to worsen but the sides pressed on and managed to see out the Bury innings. Rich Linney pulled out an impressive run out in the final over to see out Bury's 20 overs leaving them 123/8.
Little Bardfield Innings:
The players left the field with the rain beginning to worsen, originally a quick turnaround to get back out was planned. However as conditions detoriated the covers came out and with no signs that the rain would pass the match was abandoned.
Both sides pick up 6 points for the abandonment but Little Bardfield managed to pick up 4 bonus points to Bury's 3.
