Date: 29th July 2023
Venue: Woolpit Cricket Club
Toss: Little Bardfield won the toss and decided to bat first on what proved to be a challenging wicket.
Little Bardfield Innings: Opening the batting for Little Bardfield, Matt Graham and Daryl Hymas faced a tough task on an interesting wicket. Despite their best efforts, Matt was unfortunately dismissed for 8 runs and Daryl followed soon after, scoring 17. The early wickets continued to fall for Little Bardfield as Captain Rich Linney was caught out for a duck, Alasdair English taking his third wicket of the day.
However, Joe Owen and Tom Graham stepped up to stabilize the innings and put on a crucial partnership of 89 runs. Their determined efforts helped Little Bardfield regain control, with Joe scoring 45 runs and Tom notching up 44 runs before both were dismissed by Kian Flannagan.
At a pivotal moment in the innings, Callum Hymas took charge and put on a spectacular display of aggressive batting. He blazed his way to a brilliant half-century, reaching 50 runs off just 35 balls. Callum's innings included some exquisite boundary shots and a couple of towering sixes down the ground, boosting Little Bardfield's total significantly. He was supported by the impressive debut of Sam Register (who also showcased his skills as a wicketkeeper in the second innings) and the two youngest members of the team saw out the remaining overs effectively.
Bardfield ended the innings 196/5.
Woolpit Innings:
Stuart Lilley opened the batting and carried his side with an impressive 120* with Bardfield struggling to take the Woolpit captain's wicket. John Turner managed 27 before being caught by Sam Register who's cat like agility rewarded a good bowling spell from Joe Owen. Tom Graham continued his cricketing come back with the wicket of Benjamin Thomas who scored 11 runs.
Woolpit chased down the 197 run target to win the game with 8 wickets to spare.
