Little Bardfield Village CC vs. Abberton & District
Date: 11th May 2024
Venue: The Fortress - Little Bardfield
Toss: Little Bardfield won the toss and chose to bat
Little Bardfield Innings:
Despite the improved weather conditions Abbertons outfield was softer than Liverpool's attempt to secure the Quadruple so that match was reclocated to Little Bardfield.
Skipper Rory Hitchcock ventured out to the middle with the Abberton Captain and the lone umpire for the day, Rory returned making the universal hand signal for "we're batting".
Daryl Hymas opened against a bowler who was either exceptionally youthful or had the worlds best moisturiser (later confirmed he was 14). Ed Moxon was delivering some lovely pace and forcing Bardfields opener to use all his years of cricketing experince to defend his wicket.
With Rory at the other end the boys got off and running, Rory made it to 21 before being given out for an LBW from Sawdon.
Callum Hymas joined his father out in the middle and made a steady start, but was caught from a Ross Evers ball (only the start of his wicket taking for the day) returning having added 13 runs to the Oxsips score. After chalking up 68 runs, including a couple of impressive 6's Daryl was caught from a Kieran Savill delivery.
Joe Owen and debutant Mohammad Khan were occupying the middle, Joe was unfortunately caught and bowled by Evers for 5. Will Slemmings strode out to join LBVCC's newest player who hit a lovely 6 (Stu Noble-Conner took notes). Sadly Will was caught from another Evers delivery, the Bardfield middle order starting to look shakey as Stu walked out to show everyone who the real big hitter was. Khan followed Will soon after being caught from a Ross Soteriou delivery.
Stu wasn't able to form a partnership with Jack Davies and was stumped from yet another Evers delivery. Ben Hounslow was up next, making his first appearance of the season but like Joe he was caught and bowled by the rampaging Evers.
Sam Goodfellow walked out with dreams of forming a lower order partnership for the ages with Jack, sadly Evers put a stop to this bowling Davies out with a straight delivery. Bardfields hopes rested on Mikey Vivian and Goodfellow but once again Evers rained on the parade, a mistimed Goodfellow shot flew up into the heavens and was easily taken by Soteriou leaving the bowler on 7-32 for the day.
Abberton Innings:
After a tasty lunch (thank you Abberton) we got back at it. Abberton's openers Scott Jackson and Elliot Mann went to work. Jackson made it to 42 before edging to Will, who made an asbolutely sensation catch at gully.
His replacement Richard Moxon made 15 before Slemmings hands took another scalp.
Sullivan saw the win home with Mann and Abberton won by 8 wickets.
